L’wren Scott – L’wren Scott’s Timeless Designs

Classé dans : dress — lvbag at 10:51 on Mercredi, novembre 16, 2011

The fashion designer says it’s important for women to feel special when wearing one of her dresses so tries to create something that boosts their self-confidence.She said: “I’ve never met a woman who thinks they’ve got a good enough figure – however perfect they look – which is sad, because no one else can see these perceived flaws; they’re entirely internal. But I feel I’ve succeeded if I can design a dress that you can always rely on, that will stand the test of time, that becomes like a dear friend.”L’Wren – who is dating Rolling Stones legend Sir Mick Jagger – also wants her designs to be comfortable.

She told Stella magazine: You can celebrate the female form in comfort. We left corsets behind in the dark ages, so why bring them back now? The modern woman has a modern life, and most of us work. There’s no time to change before we go out in the evening, so a dress should always look appropriate for day and night.”DJ, designer and StyleCaster favorite Chrissie Miller is teaming up with fellow designer friend (and another StyleCaster fav) Lindsey Thornburg to launch the duo’s first-ever retail location in New York’s Lower East Side.

The shop is called 143 (which is appropriate since the shop is located at 143 Ludlow St, New York, New York) and will feature designs from Chrissie Miller’s own Sophomore label, Lindsey Thornburg’s wool cape jackets and boho dresses, vintage duds from online thrift dealers like Sisters of the Black Moon and Crystal Visions, House of Lavande jewelry and beauty items from Amanda Lacey and Mitchell and Peach.Artist, actor and Chrissie’s boyfriend Leo Fitzpatrick will also be helping out with the new retail venture by curating the shop’s art and books selection, which is set to feature works from Bruce Weber, Richard Kern and Cass Bird.

Max Azria reinvent his herve leger bandage dresses

Classé dans : dress — lvbag at 11:00 on Lundi, novembre 14, 2011

Indeed, after three full days of presenting the dresses at New York’s coterie shows, Ms. Hilton was buzzing–Nordstrom had agreed to buy the collection a week before, and she had just struck a deal with Saks Fifth Avenue that day. She gushed over two Saks buyers who were at the party. “They’re such a cute couple. Like prom or something,” she said. “They could be Hiltons!” The Saks buyers giggled nervously.Ms. Hilton said she wanted the dresses, which cost $295 to $550, to be inexpensive enough that people could buy four or five, as well as timeless enough to be worn for years. “I actually think it’s cool now to bring out the old stuff,” she said. “Now, let’s save our money.”

Completing the look were each model’s gladiator boots, which featured cut-outs and felt like an extension of the bandage-dress aesthetic. My designs are mostly designs that are unique from the mainstream. I do custom cut as well. If a bride is unable to find a dress of her dreams–I will custom design in from scratch. Although I do sell other designers as well; I sometimes end up enhancing it to make the bride happy. It just switched. The trend is basically the trumpet fit, ruching, semi-ball gown, the one strap is still ruling…Also more of a flower detail with embellishment. Just within a couple of weeks it’s been more of the covered shoulders; it’s no longer strapless anymore ever since the princess wedding.

It depends on the self-esteem. And sometimes they come in here for you to build them up. They just want to know you are on their side and understand their needs and what makes them feel like a pretty bride. That season, many designers are pulling their inspiration in the “roaring twenties”. This glimpse is characterized by slipped waists, art deco layouts, and flapper style flare. The wedding dresses 2011 pattern roaring 20’s styles are extremely flattering on tall, thin brides. The ball gown look is backside for wedding dresses 2011, drawing inspiration in the fifties. This full skirted design is romantic and quite fairytale. This is often the dress that many women of all ages have pictured themselves within, since they were fresh girl. This look helpful on a bride who’s going to be not afraid to present some cleavage.

Amy Winehouse ‘Back To Black’ Dress Up For Auction

Classé dans : clothing — lvbag at 2:42 on Vendredi, novembre 11, 2011

Amy Winehouse’s iconic dress worn on the cover of her multi-platinum selling album ‘Back to Black’ is to be auctioned off for charity. The printed chiffon dress, by Thailand-based designer Disaya, will be sold off on 29th November to raise money for the Amy Winehouse Foundation and is expected to sell for up to $20,000.The foundation was set up by Winehouse’s family in the wake of her tragic death in July this year, and aims to provide charitable activities for vulnerable people.Fashion auctioneer Kerry Taylor told Press Association the dress in question is important because if will forever be associated with the late jazz singer.

“In my opinion, what makes this particular dress special is that it is an emblematic reminder of the magic voice and sublime talent of Amy Winehouse – a sound that resonates with the entire generation, and always will.”The ‘Rehab’ singer’s regular producers Salaam Remi Gibbs and Mark Ronson have put together a new album of previously unheard material including both original songs and covers.’Amy Winehouse Lioness: Hidden Treasures’ will be released on 5th December alongside new single ‘Our Day Will Come’, with $1 from every sale of the record being donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

The announcement for my office holiday party has been made. My other job is at a law firm, which means nearly everyone is well-styled (if sometimes stuffy) and has the money to pull it off. My style, on the other hand, am a little more adventurous and a lot less expensive. (Today I’m wearing what I call my “Christening dress” – so white, so frilly – with argyle socks and two-toned oxfords. The dress was on sale for $15; the socks were a steal on Gilt.)While my coworkers will be wearing dresses and suits that cost however much, I will be wearing a dress that…well, doesn’t. I have an option or two at home, but who doesn’t want a new party dress now and then? For my perusal (and yours), I turned to ModCloth.

THE biggest clothing price war for years has clobbered profits at MARKS & SPENCER and PRIMARK.

Classé dans : clothing — lvbag at 10:38 on Mercredi, novembre 9, 2011

M&S yesterday said promotions are running at “historical highs” as stores scrap it out for cash-strapped shoppers.Boss Marc Bolland said M&S was marking down 25 per cent of its clothing and homeware range at any one time, compared with 20 per cent last year. While the move has helped protect sales, profit margins have fallen. For the six months to October 1, profits across M&S fell ten per cent to $315.2million — the first drop for two years. Revenues, including food, were up 2.4 per cent to $4.7billion. Mr Bolland said: “The market of today is all about deals. We are doing more promotionals than last year — but the market is even more promotional than us.”

Primark’s annual results showed the chain made $309million in the year to September 17, down eight per cent — its first profits fall in ten years.Bosses put it down to a decision to “absorb inflation” rather than pass on higher costs through price hikes because of the fierce competition. M&S said it expected the high level of promotions to run right through to the New Year.Mr Bolland added that sales of “dine in” food ranges soared to record levels over the summer as more Brits stayed at home. He said: “Saturday night is the new Sunday lunch.”

But he insisted there were signs customers still wanted to “celebrate” Christmas with food pre-orders up ten per cent on last year. The chain has also struck a deal with Savile Row tailor Richard James to design an exclusive British collection. One difficulty people have with the international campaign is that the name does not represent the children and adults of all ages and genders who are victims of sexual assault and also need support.

Why Reclaimed Flooring ?

Classé dans : Floor — lvbag at 10:51 on Jeudi, novembre 3, 2011

All species of reclaimed, antique oak flooring present us with good examples. We hear too many horror stories at the reclaimed flooring co involving cupping new solid oak flooring imported from abroad mainly China. We hear very few regarding correctly treated, reclaimed & salvaged oak flooring. This is because of the correct moisture content within the reclaimed hardwood, antique, salvaged, old oak boards. Wide plank oak flooring can also present more problems but if carefully laced by an experienced reclaimed flooring floor fitter, then the risks of cupping are minimal.

The quality of these old, antique oak floorboards can be inspected simply by looking into the grain patterns and tightness within the wood floor. If the wooden oak floor has a dense grain that feels extremely hard to touch with your finger nail, if the moisture content is between 7-10% and if all careful wood floor fitting trade rules (under floor heating included) are considered, there should be no problem. Reclaimed hardwood, solid antique oak flooring & under floor heating can present problems if the wood floor is not supplied correctly or the wood floor fitting has been completed incorrectly.

The important point being that because of their age, many years go these old trees and timbers were slow grown timbers, thus they were and still are tougher and higher quality wood than the trees grown today. People ask is a reclaimed flooring strong, will it last? Simply, yes it will and it will continue to last. A real solid reclaimed floor is more durable than most new solid hardwood floors sold on the market today. Without stain Maple has an incredible shine when finished, and is excellent for making a room look bigger and feel warmer by reflecting the natural light.

No shrinkage for clothing prices

Classé dans : clothing — lvbag at 10:33 on Mardi, novembre 1, 2011

Even as cotton prices recede from all-time highs set in the spring, retailers and clothing makers are set to keep most of the price rises they implemented earlier in the year, when they sought to contain the damage to margins. And most will only offer discounts when they face pressure from their rivals.Store chains and their suppliers avoided raising prices as long as they could, fearful of a backlash from consumers. But just as they did not pass on all their cost increases, retailers and clothiers won’t hand over all their savings.

In fact, many will try to hang on to any margin gains next year as a cushion against other rising costs, betting that shoppers are growing used to paying a bit more after a decade with little clothing inflation.Cotton futures trading on ICE Futures U.S. surged to a record high in March after climbing nearly three times in value from the previous year, when the spot cotton contract sat roughly around 80 cents per pound. The contract has since dropped by more than half, but is still 40 per cent above 2009 levels.

Now companies that sell clothes using a lot of cotton – like American Eagle Outfitters, Gap and Nike – are telling investors their gross margins should improve starting in the second half of 2012.”The benefit from cotton costs going down is going to be reflected in margins. They are not going to lower the prices,” said NPD’s Cohen. One thing that may help rein in prices for consumers, to some extent, is competition. Consumers can buy basics like blue jeans from any number of vendors, making higher cotton costs scary for retailers and manufacturers.

Dresses that stay in memory

Classé dans : dress — lvbag at 10:23 on Mercredi, octobre 26, 2011

If it’s a famous frock, you can bet your breakfast at Tiffany’s that Hal Rubenstein knows the story behind it.Rubenstein is the fashion director for the glitzy, celebrity-driven InStyle magazine. His latest book, 100 Unforgettable Dresses (HarperDesign, 2011), is a testament to his knowledge of all the things tailored, glossy, and see-through that have become, well, unforgettable. The book was released Tuesday.Stylish books regularly land on my desk, but this 206-page hardcover stood out because Rubenstein packed it with little-known fashion facts.

For example: It’s common knowledge that Hubert de Givenchy was a favorite couturier of Audrey Hepburn’s, but who knew he fought revered costume designer Edith Head for top fashion credits in Hepburn’s most memorable films? Head was credited with designing the little black dress Hepburn wore in Sabrina; Givenchy designed it. Funny, we all know who went on to become the household name.Rubenstein explains how silhouettes we take for granted became wardrobe staples: Diane von Furstenberg’s wrap dress, Claire McCardell’s kitchen dress, and the That Girl A-line. And Rubenstein name-checks iconic fashionistas from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to Sarah Jessica Parker, with a little Michelle Obama sprinkled in.

He jogs our high-fashion memories by reminding us of moments such as Elizabeth Hurley wearing Gianni Versace’s safety-pin gown in 1994 and Halle Berry’s 2002 appearance at the Oscars in that sexy Elie Saab. They are in a very random order. Here are a few to look at: the Valentino dresses, he made us fall in love with red. Versace’s safety-pin dress. The strapless debutante white dress worn by Elizabeth Taylor in A Place in the Sun. That dress became the standard for prom dresses. It’s one of the ones we refer to as the “ultimate dress.”

Sportiiiis turns ordinary sunglasses into heads up display eyewear for cyclists

Classé dans : clothing — lvbag at 10:06 on Lundi, octobre 24, 2011

Canada’s 4iiii Innovations has developed a Head Up Display for athletes that can be mounted on virtually all glasses thanks to included universal attachment points, so there’s no need to stop wearing your favorite pair of sport sunglasses. Sportiiiis – pronounced “sport-eyes” – receives crucial performance data from any paired monitoring device via ANT+ wireless technology, compares actual performance with desired workout zone parameters and then feeds real-time indicators back to the user via colored LED lights and audio updates.

Unlike systems like the SportVue retro-fit HUD for motorbike and bicycle helmets or the Transcend ski goggles, Sportiiiis doesn’t offer graphic visuals that might cause cyclists to look away from the road ahead at a critical moment. Performance feedback from paired ANT+ devices such as heart rate monitors, power meters, and cadence or speed modules is provided via a simple LED notification system that informs wearers whether they’re within a pre-configured optimum workout zone.

If the cyclist or runner sees a red LED light up on the flexible boom that sits in the space between the lens of the chosen eyewear and the user’s eye, the athlete is working too hard and needs to ease off a little. Green means the user is in the zone and yellow or orange is somewhere in between. The water-resistant device also features a built-in speaker for providing audio feedback – in English only at the moment but the company is working on other language packs – and doesn’t cover the ear so is safe to use on the road or track. Tapping on the side of the unit prompts an instant audio update and double-tapping cycles through the paired devices.
